Learning Institute /Continuing Education

PURPOSE: The purpose of the Learning Institute at Nature’s Place is to provide educational opportunities for all populations and ages and any number of challenges. While some classes are designed and taught with a rehabilitative and therapeutic emphasis, we encourage all who have an interest in a particular area to inquire as we also offer classes to those who do not present with a challenge. All classes are taught and/or overseen by licensed speech/language pathologist, students in training, or teachers. There is a particular emphasis on teaching life skills as well as other skills such as strengthening and balance, cognitive and language processing, reading skills, social and pragmatic skills, following basic and complex directions,
and refinement of gross and fine motor skills. Additionally, these classes are also available to anyone just interested in learning and having fun Semester 8 weeks: January 9 – February 27, 2018

Musical Instruments: Where students become players! Lessons are taught for the beginning, intermediate, or advanced student. Classes are formed according to students of similar levels. No more than 3 students per class.
Choice of instruments include guitar, bass, ukulele or light percussion. Each class is 45 minutes in length. Tuesdays
10Am, 11AM, 1PM, or 2PM. Class Tuition: $225.

Arts & Crafts: This class includes exploration and instruction in a number of different artistic areas with varying
materials allowing for skills of all levels. Therapeutic skills targeted may include sensory integration, pressure
control, sequencing, following directions, fine motor tasks and more. Projects may include, but are not limited to
bread dough art, weaving, using plastic canvas, bead work, and jewelry. Some items may be constructed for sale
placement in the Acorn Shoppe. Tuesdays 1PM-2PM. Class tuition: $75 all materials provided.

Woodworking: This class utilizes various shapes and textures of wood for making smaller projects. Small hand tools only are used in creating a variety of projects by engaging the hand and the mind together. Therapeutic skills
targeted may include sensory integration, pressure control, sequencing, following directions, fine motor tasks and
more. Some items may be constructed for sale placement in the Acorn Shoppe. Tuesdays 2PM-3PM. Class tuition:
$150 all materials provided.

Sewing: This class involves the creation of various projects both by hand and/or machine depending on student skill level and comfort. Projects may include pillows, bags, blankets, toys, decorations, and kitchen items. Some items
may be constructed for sale placement in the Acorn Shoppe. Tuesdays 10AM-11AM. Class tuition: $75 all
materials provided.

Knitting & Crocheting: This class involves the creation of various projects both by knitting and crocheting
depending on student skill level, comfort, and interest. Projects may include pillows, bags, blankets, toys,
decorations, and kitchen items. Some items may be constructed for sale placement in the Acorn Shoppe. Tuesdays
11AM-12PM. Class tuition: $75 all materials provided.

Cooking: This class includes microwave and stove/oven cooking depending on the skill level of the students. All
recipes involve only 5 ingredients with no more than 10 different types of cooking equipment. Discussion of meal
preparation and shopping is integrated in the class curriculum. Tuesdays 3PM-4PM. Class tuition: $100 all materials included.
